[EXT. THE BRASS EAGLE TAVERN.  Crickets chirp and wind blows, and we hear a creaking wooden sign.  We hear footsteps. VEGA, AMARA,

and DREW, arrive at the tavern’s doorstep.]

VEGA

…Are you sure this is the place?

AMARA

It has to be.

DREW
Have to say…something feels very off about this.

VEGA

Of course it feels off, it’s a tavern in the middle of nowhere.

AMARA

…I’m certain this is the place I’ve been looking for.  I came this way yesterday–and there was nothing here.

DREW

Do you think it’s…some sort of trap?

VEGA

(skeptical) A trap?  For who?

DREW

I dunno.  Wanderers?  Travelers…who no one will miss?  This whole thing reads like magic to me.

AMARA

I mean, yeah.  If the stories are true…it’s a teleporting building.

VEGA

The sign says it’s open.  It could be a trap for people who can’t read–so maybe you should stay outside, Drew?

DREW

Oh, waste you.  I can read. …I just think it’s weird that everything is so quiet.

VEGA

To be honest, I don’t know if I’d feel any better if it were full of people.

DREW

Good point.  Well, what’re we standing outside for?  Go on in, Amara.

AMARA

…Aren’t you coming?

VEGA

Come on, kid, you’re the one who dragged us all the way out here.  Knock!

DREW

Who knocks on a tavern door?

VEGA

Someone who doesn’t want to piss off whatever sort of person can magic away a whole building on a whim.

DREW

You don’t really believe what those priests were saying?  About mages and all that?

VEGA

Not necessarily.  But I don’t want to get turned into a newt or vaporized or turned inside-out today for catching the wrong person by surprise.

DREW

(relenting) Fair enough.

AMARA

I don’t know if I like this anymore.

DREW

We’re right behind you.  Don’t worry.

AMARA, shaking her head

Fine.  You two–be quiet.  You have me all jumpy.  (to herself) We’re just here for drinks.  Nothing…to be worried about.

[We hear footsteps, then knocking on the tavern’s door.]

AMARA

Hello?  Anybody home?
